I have been noticing how much less ornamental the Irish architecture is compared to the English. Is there a reason, besides money, for this that you know of? Where is Ormond castle, and does anyone live in it now? My brother used to have a girlfriend named Erin Ormond – her ancestral home? 🙂

The house is from about 1560. It marks the end of Castle building, due mostly to the development of cannon. It marks the change to a Puritan outlook, the Butlers being somewhat flexible in the Religion stakes and it must be said better than most in their bet on which direction the wind was blowing.
The Castle has a very strong connection to Anne Boleyn as her mother was born there.
As to embellishment, that is more my taste in photos.
